My first project as an intern was done in my second ten hours on the job. I was asked to help out in a team building activity. This team building activity was on a volunteer basis for most. My supervisor, Josh McAfee, was in charge of rallying the volunteers to do this project. The night before Josh and I set up the activities that were going to be ran. The team building project was with a kids camp called Camp Fearless. The kids involved in this camp were ones that have experienced a significant loss in their life. The camp is designed to help build friendships and find things that make the kids smile. It really was a rewarding experience to see how much fun kids had with some of the games, that were sort of out of date, that we introduced them to.
The next job I took part in was helping Mike with basketball games on Monday and Wednesdays. I did everything from setting up or tearing down the court, running scoreboard, doing the stats, or getting ice for injured players. I even learned how to fill out an accident report and filled one out the same day.
Overall, my first days on the job I was treated very well. It was definitely weird to be in a new place at first, but everybody made me feel very welcome. By far the most friendly people were the ones that ran the front desk. The first couple days I was pretty nervous about the experience but they made me feel a lot more confident by the way they treated me.
