Most of the past few days has been preparing for the 4th of July festivities. The main thing that we spent preparing for was the 4th of July parade. We had to hand out flyers to parents and their kids to ask them if they would like to participate in the parade. I was the one who was asked to write the letter to these parents asking them if they wanted their kids to participate in the parade. This was a very rewarding time in learning what goes into parade preparation and preparation of a big time event within the city. I learned a lot about what streets to close off and security.
These past few days on the internship I have also been coaching more. The kids are starting to get more comfortable asking me for advice. The coaches and I had our first confrontation with a parent. I learned how to properly handle a situation involving an angry parent. In the end, the issue was resolved for the time being. I am continuing to learn that it is impossible to make everyone happy. On a good note, we got our first win against another one of the full-time staff members at the Rec Center, Pete!
There is someone I would like to recognize as being troopers at this time. These people being the ones running the Recreation Camp. They are the people that deal with the most crap on a daily basis with the kids they have to watch. Most of the kids did not get along the past month that I have been here and it has to be frustrationg as an employee.
